Basic Life Support (CPR & Defibrillator Training) in Exeter and the South West

More than 200 cardiac arrests occur every day in the UK, and they can happen to anyone, at any time. Early CPR helps keep oxygen flowing to the brain, but it is the use of a defibrillator (AED) that can truly mean the difference between life and death.

In an emergency, every second matters. This course teaches you how to use a defibrillator quickly and correctly, alongside delivering effective CPR, giving you the confidence to act when it counts most.

The course lasts three hours, and successful participants will receive a certificate valid for one year.

What This Course Covers

Having a basic understanding of first aid and its core techniques can save lives.

This Basic Life Support (BLS) course provides the essential skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively in an emergency, allowing you to deliver critical, life-saving care until professional help arrives.

The course includes the safe and effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and is delivered in line with the latest Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines.

AEDs are proven to save lives and are now a vital part of workplace health and safety provision. They are also widely available in public spaces such as shopping centres, leisure facilities, and service stations.

This CPR and Defibrillator training course teaches effective CPR and how to confidently operate an AED. No previous first aid experience is required.

If you would like to develop your first aid skills further, our Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course builds on this training and covers CPR and AED use alongside a wider range of essential first aid topics.

Qualification

Your Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate is valid for three years from the date you complete the course. To renew your qualification, you must attend a further 3-hour Basic Life Support training course.

The BLS qualification is a nationally recognised and accredited award. At First Aid Exeter, we exceed the minimum standards required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) for first aid training providers.
To learn more about how we meet and surpass these standards, please click here.
For further information on the HSE’s guidance for selecting a first aid training provider, please click here.

In 2013, the HSE deregulated the first aid training industry, meaning externally regulated certification is no longer required. However, some specialist or high-risk workplaces may still require externally regulated qualifications. If this applies to your organisation, please let us know before booking and we will be happy to advise you.
